From pictures, the only way I've seen it, the OF1010 looks really awkward--is that not the case?......

It's actually really easy to use the 1010 with the edging plate.

+1 -- it may look somewhat awkward, but it really is easy and balanced.  If you were only doing thinner banding all day, then the MFK would be a better choice -- that is what it was designed for.  However, the edging accessories are very capable.

I used my mfk700 for a large cabinet job with iron-on egding and wasn't too impressed with it for that type of thin vinyl edging.

In fact, I went back to using the little plastic trimmer with a razor blade and the file instead of the mfk.

I was really hoping it'd be the ticket for the iron-on edging, but for me it was to much hassle with not enough efficiency payoff.

For solid wood or thicker edging, I could see it being the perfect tool.

Darn stupid they didn't design the horizontal bases so the O-degree  and the 1.5 degree could be achieved simply by changing out the phenolic sub-bases like on the OF2200.  It's ridiculous that the single extra base is near $150....

The 700 has serious bit length issues. Just be sure it meets your needs. I just used my 1010 with the horizontal accessories to trim some 1 1/4" wide edging with a 1 1/2" long bit and it worked extremely well. No problems getting it virtually flush with the plywood and only requiring very light sanding with my ETS150/3. Was very easy to control. I just love the 1010 for so many uses. I have looked at the 700 several times but there is nothing it can do that I can't do with the 1010.

I havn't tried it for thin tape type edge banding, but I can see where it might not be real good for that. Like you say the razor type trimmers do that job well.

Also is very adjustable, lots of leeway with the 1010
