Hello,

this is a project I did 5 years ago, I'm 26 and already feel old when I think how long it's been, for an architect.  He made the design, his kitchen is the same design but he wasn't happy with that carpenter so he contacted me.
He didn't enjoy it for long, he and his wive split up less then a year later and they sold the house.

It's pretty straightforward, the cabinet is made from black melamine an the fronts are multiplex Okoume (Aucoumea klaineana) and colored red.  The top is MDF with an aluminium laminate glued to the top.

The drawers are also made in melamine, if I recall correctly that was the last time that I made my drawers.  After that I always ordered them complete from Blum, it's a bid more expensive in material but for the customer it's about the same.  I don't have to put time in them and get to do the more fun part, a drawer is just a drawer, not much fun in that.  The quality is incomparable, there is more space, it looks a lot sleeker, there lighter, so it's a win/win situation.  The customer pays the same and gets more quality, and I can spend less time on that job.

All the drawers are without handles, you need to give them a little push so they spring open.  That was the most tricky part, i had to modify the drawerslide'sa bit and ad a springmechanism at the underside of the drawers.  Nowadays you can buy drawerslides from Blum with such a mechanism pre-installed (Blum tandewbox Tip-on).

To be honest this was pre-festool for me, at that moment I had yet to discover the wonder world of Festool, it's that long ago...

Nice project.  Might be too modern for some, but it is my style.  I realize that an architect dessigned it, but I wonder why he didn't center the design. If I missed something, my apologies.  Without a toe kick wasn't it awkward to use the sink?

Just think how much easier it would be today to do the fronts with a guide rail to do the fronts - especially the quirks. ;D

I'm liking it, Mettes!

Peter, I wouldn't center it either. Offset like that gives more usable space to the counter-top, and you have more freedom to do things with the drawers and cabinet regions that aren't under the sink.

Dan,

I am sorry I wasn't clear.  I wasn't referring to the sink placement.  I was referring to the verticle quirks.  There appears to be an additional one to the right.  Whereas the quirks don't have to line up with doors or drawers, it just looked stranger than usual.  I realize that someone else did the design and perhaps the designer had his reason.

Hey Peter,

If I remember correctly the design was based on 15cm intervals so the fronts are 15, 30 and 45cm.  Why the design is asymetric? Symmetry is to easy to apreciate...

I didn't use the sink, but at home we also don't have a toe kick, don't miss it much for brushing my teeth and washing my face.  I don't think it's practical for a kitchen where you stand and work at the sink and counter.

I have the luck of being able to use an Altendorf F45, so it wasn't that difficult without the guide rail  ;D

Yep very nice, looks like a Starck Hansgrohe Axor faucet  - $$$  500.00 + US , but lots of copy makes now. Kind of a weak choice for the basin considering the rest of the room. But it works well with the minimalist thing.
The cabinet face grids pick up on the tile lines. Beautiful work.
Looking at the faucet reminds me of how the US is so lacking when it comes to design / manufacture choices, and thats 5 years old !

Nice.  ;)

Done anything with their (Blum) lift systems?

Hey Eli,

I have used there lift system Aventos HK before.  It's a great system, customers love it, easy to install and adjust, works like a charm.  Only drawback it's pretty big...

I'm planning to use there Aventos HL system on a project for the most demanding customer of them all...
