Dewalt DW735 Planer Chip Bag

Get a Rigid 2 1/2" hose kit and a utility nozzle.  Also a Toro Leaf Blower Bag.

Put double stick tape around the outside of utility nozzle and thread a tie wrap in the collar of the bag.  Put the utility nozzle inside the bad with the connector sticking out.  Snug up the tie wrap.

Route hose and connect to the DW735 exhaust port.

Nice idea, but you're going to fill that bag most wiki-wiki.  Then the hose blows off and your shop/garage/driveway will look like there was an explosion in a chip factory.  Also, you have a 180° and two 90° bends in the hose.  Might want to get a 4" elbow with a gentle, smooth radius before reducing to 2-1/2", then gently curve the flex hose down to the bag.  YMMV...

Actually it's working nicely.  I will just check the bag as I go.  It's good sized.

I have a set screw in the hose at the planer fitting and bag end.  It isn't going anywhere.

Yesterday I only ran a few pieces.  Today I have a lot to plane so we'll see if Sparky's right.
I'm crossing my fingers.

I have to admit to being a very bad boy.  This is out of character....and I did it out of a lot of frustration.  At HD, I had to "swap" the vac connector from the 2 1/2" with the one in the 1 7/8"  I wanted to have the larger dia. hose but only the 1 7/8 input fitting would fit into the 735 exhaust fitting.  Yes, now some poor DIY'er will buy the 1 7/8" hose set and have one wrong connector.  The one with the red release tab.  There is another included in the set so it will work.  Believe me I have remorse.  I would not want to be the guy that bought that box.  I am here to admit this.

If you build one you should order the right part.  Be sure to take the 735 outlet port with you to HD.

I have a sinking feeling there will be a lot of rigid 1 7/8" hose boxes with the wrong adapter. If you should go to the dark side for 5 minutes.....  Open up about three hose boxes and play three card Monty with the adapters.  I'm going to burn for this

The 735 is a tool that has a really big appetite. As such, it expels wood just as quickly. It's a tool that really benefits from as big of a hose as possible. If you aren't going to empty into your established dust collection equipment, I may suggest something along these lines, particularly the plans given for a bigger collection point that doubles as a mobile cart: http://www.rockler.com/dust-right-4-dust-separator-components

You could use this approach with a furnace filter for a self-contained unit.

That is a pretty nice set up if mine doesn't work well I can see one in my future. I am also considering adding the Venturi from the compressor if it is possible

I got a chance to see how my dust bag setup worked after more significant use.
I vacuumed the floor, then set up and ran 60 linear feet of blue pine.  I removed 2mm
I after I finished I moved the planer and took a picture of the floor.  Both photos are after planing.
The bag is about 1/3 full.

Hard to believe it would push the chips through that long of a hose, but that's great. I've never used it without a dust collector. You will need to keep your eye on how full the bag is though. Even if the bag stays on when it's full, it will be kind of messy and imbed the chips into the surface of the wood you are planing if they don't get driven out of the planer.

I hear ya, but so far this rig is working great.

Maybe it's dumb luck that the bends take away some of the air force.  The fittings to the bag and the 735 are very snug.  Right now I don't have the space for the large Rockler can thing.  If anything, down the road, I'll see about mounting a Dust Deputy to the wall inline with a CT-26.

As I said it's working well.  I'm also not taking off a lot of material in one pass.  That probably helps because the chips are much smaller.

Toro also makes a bag that goes on top of a trash barrel. The design is the same as what dewalt used to offer. I think I may try this setup instead.

That looks superior if you have room for the drum and can fasten the hose to the 735 fitting.  If the hose is larger than the fitting you could use a large hose clamp and drill holes for sheet metal screws into the plastic.  I did this with the dryer vent.  You can still remove the fitting from the 735 by pressing the lock button and twisting.

IMO it would need to be a straight shot out and down.  I don't think there would be enough force to push it from the ground up.  If you try it please post the results.
