Difficulty adjusting Kapex Miter Angle

I just picked up a new Kapex today.  It is very difficult to adjust the miter angle on the saw.  it takes a tremendous about of effort to move it at all and there is a lot of grinding noise.  Is there a release button or lock that I have to undo before I can adjust it.  I am pulling up on the release lever and pushing down on the miter lock button.

unfortunatelly, the kapex is that way for the first few weeks, i had the same issue, ater a little bit of use it starts to loosen up a tad.  I kind of enjoy the stiffnes because it keeps the saw very ridgid while making cuts. If you feel that it's unberable to make the miter adjustment i would go to the dealer that had sold you the unit and ask for a retrofit miter kit or something like that, they made the kit for the kapex units that were initialy sent out with the same problem.  Or just call the service department at the 800 number that's right on the saw. 

As from my own experiance with all my festools it takes a little while to brake them in but once they do, there is no better tool out there.  Dont get discouraged, i know that its hard to justify spending 1300 bucks on a tool that you feel like it's rough around the edges while the 500 dollar dewalt works like butter out of the box. But after a few months the dewalt will have to be adjusted 4 times compared to the kapex 0.

I had a problem like that, turns out I didn't pull up hard enough on the release.

It is a stiffer table than all the others but, firm is better than well, loose.  [big grin]

I went out this morning and no problem!.  I think I had the same problem you talked about, not pulling up the handle all the way.  All is good

I just purchased a scms. After considering the Kapex, Dewalt, Ridgid, Milwaukee, and others, I chose the Milwaukee. There is no "break-in" period at all for the machine to function properly. I really like some of the features of the Kapex, but come on, for 1300 clams and to still have  design issue/flaws, the Milwaukee was an easy pick for me.

Too bad the Milwaukee is not easy to pick up. [big grin]

And you can't really compare apples to oranges, the Kapex is the pack leader and the rest are just submissive saws.

In a setting where time is money and a crappy built house is involved, I tend to get pissed rather easy when easy things
take longer than the difficult things.

Yes I had some issues with my dual laser alignment but, I have since taken care of that problem and all is well.

While dual lasers are a bit of a frill, I want to use them to my advantage, speed.

You should see how far a 12v makita impact fly's off the top of a bank barn roof.

When I get frustrated/irritated while working, the only thing that really helps is tossing something, breaking something and then a smoke break.

Kind of sounds like what goes on in my bedroom. [big grin]

The best part is when you have an issue with a tool, the tool company takes care of that.
Never once could I get bosch, makita, or milwaukee to do something like that.

When it comes to Bosch, I can testify to that. In fact, I have had a rep say to me "We don't even manufacture that (the radio), it is made for us", in a tone that I presume was to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

It was on that day I swore that I would never buy a (new) Bosch power tool ever again. Then I discovered Festool!

At least Festool is produced & manufactured in Germany, not like most other major tool brands whom sold their souls off to Taiwan & China's cheap labor - no thanks!

Not trying to rain on your parade but I do not think Festool makes their radio either...or measuring tape, screwdriver, safety glasses etc.

i have noticed that all of us tend to nit-pick on small things a lot more when we spend a lot of money on things, when i bought a makita set and hammer drill stopped working after 9 months of regular use, i put it to the side and let it collect dust while i got my self a new one, the justification is simple, you don't feel 100 - 200 dollars fall out of your pocket as much as you do when you spend 600$ on a 14.4v t15-3 and then you start saying things like well for 250 i could of gotten a makita set with built in light, hammer drill and impact driver, but people dont seem to remember that in the 6-10 years after purchasing the festool others have gone thru 5 makitas. Same with the kapex, it is a lot of money, but lets talk in 5 years and compare accuracy between the two.
i learned my lesson and everytime i try to cheap out on a tool it ends up costing my 3 fold. go festool, once you learn to cope with the fact that spending the money on festool is worth it for the long run. then you should never be dissapointed with any purchase.

I have never owned anything that was perfect.

This whole mess started from a guy not fully releasing the miter lock down on his saw.
I did the same stupid damn thing when I got mine and felt like a moron.

Sometimes I think the national piss and moan club meets here.

No, all I was saying is that chastising a company due to the fact their crap radio is made by someone else is a little ridiculous.
