Dimensions on magnet within CXS drill chuck?

Like many, the magnet within the my CXS shaft came out.  [mad]

Unlike most, I didn't notice until the magnet was long gone.  [eek]

Rather than ship in my drill, I'd be happy to fix it myself with either CA or VHB tape, but don't know the dimensions of the magnet in question. The magnet doesn't appear to be part of the parts list, unfortunately.

Does anyone know the dimension or whether I can order a replacement magnet directly from Festool?

Thanks much,
MB

I had the same thing happen.  Right now, I am uing the Jacobs chuck.

There isn't a spare part available for just the magnet. You'd need to get the bit holder (498974). I'll DM both of you about it.

Tyler, Sighted PM...read same.
The part Mark and I were referring to is the tiny magnet that fits inside of the CXS. It popped out of my drill soon after I started using it. I stuck it back in only to have it come out at end of the bit with the first time I used the tool again.  I just put the magnet where I should not forget where it was so the next time i had crazy glue in the shop, i could re-attach the mag.  Of course, i never found the spot where put the magnet where I would always remember where I put it.  Someday, i will find that spot and will have to build a  new shop just to contain all the stuff I have storred in "that spot."

I looked at both messages you sent.  I will PM my address to you.  I'll let you decide which bit will work best. I think probably the second one.

I appreciate.

As an alternative solution, this may be of some interest. The magnet Festool used was probably 6mm in diameter, I don't know the thickness.

Also I'd advise against securing the magnet with cyanoacrylate adhesives as they have a propensity to fail in this application. I suggest a dab of construction adhesive or silicone.

Diameter is 3/16".

Not the best video, but it may after some of your questions.

Exactly, I searched for 6mm magnets and found none, thus I included the link to K&J which offers no less than 24 magnets that are 3/16" in diameter and would probably work.
