Since the 1400mm guide rail (491498) is the same price as 1400mm LR32 guide rail (496939), eliminate the former and include the later with the TS55.

The TS55 was my first purchase and I bought a second 1400mm guide rail at the same time  to break down sheet goods.  Now that I am ready to purchase the LR32 set, I need to buy a third 1400mm guide rail to use the set.

Both 1400 guide rails may be the same price in the US, but it's the only place that happens. Over here in Europe, the holey rails are roughly 25% more than the regular ones.

Sell one of your non-holey FS1400/2 rails to help offset the cost of the holey rail.

You are absolutely right and that is most likely what I will do.  It would be nice if instead, before even knowing about the LR32 system, I already owned two LR32 rails.

So sell both of your standard rails and get two "holy" rails.  End of problem!!!

That price discrepancy between Europe, Australia and the US is interesting.  Either we're getting a bargain, or Festool is testing a pricing policy that might be rolled out to other countries in the future.  I think including the holey rail with the TS55, even if that meant raising the price of the saw by $25-30 would introduce more people to that system, and would probably lead to more sales of the LR32 set and possibly routers as well.

I understand I can sell my rails and purchase new ones.  I'm offering a suggestion that at least in the US, makes sense for both the company and the customer.  It's not going to help me, but it would help future buyers of the TS55.

I'm going to be in that same boat at some point in the future.

I agree also that if they are the same price they could get rid of the unholey one.

(Should the ones with holes cost less, since we are getting less material, or should they cost more since you can do more with them?  ???)

Best prices I can find for the rails are £48 for the standard and £74 for the holy rails, makes it an additional circa 50% difference.

What are the benefits of the Holy rail for use with the TS-55 or other tracksaws? I could see the benefit to Festool to encourage others to buy their routers, but had I only a tracksaw I cannot see what benefit the holy rail would bring to me?

I completely agree.  From what I have observed here on the FOG, a track saw is typically people's first Festool purchase.  Including a holey rail would make this initial purchase even more of a gateway drug to the LR-32 system and Festool routers.

I've also observed that many people, at least here in the US, who don't swap their solid rail for a holey rail when they first purchase a track saw are left saying " I wish I knew more about Festool when I first bought the track saw so I could have done that".  Why have people regretting anything about their first Festool purchase.

I didn't find the FOG until after I started purchasing Festool tools and dealers don't seem to volunteer that you can swap rails or the advantages to doing it.  I wish I had known.

To give you a comparison = before taxes both the 1400 holey and standard rails cost £86 here in Canada at today's rates so it's not that we're getting a bargain on the holey rail it's we're paying double the rate elsewhere for the standard rail!

To me the LR32 guide rail does not bring any advantage compared with the standard one. I am using the guide rail just with my TS75 for cutting the rough lumber. Then I move to table saw. To pay 15% more to get holes which I do not need is money wasted. If you need the holes, buy the LR32, if you do not need them like me, buy the regular one.

Again....In the USA and Canada, the price is the same for both the Holey and non-Holey 1400mm tracks. Therefore, in North America, it makes perfect sense to get the holey track with the initial TS55 purchase, because there is always the potential of adding the LR32 system later, and saving the repeated purchase of a holey track.  There is no justification for NOT buying the holey if the price is no different.

Cheers,
Frank

In Australia the standard 1400 rail is $205 and the holey 1400 is $274 an increase of ~30%.

I still would have preferred to have bought the holey rail with the saw if that the option was available, even if I had to make up the difference. But I was told it comes as a package with the rail - end of discussion.

If I was buying it now, thanks to the FOG as I now know more about Festool products, I would shop around until I found a dealer that was willing to sell me what I really needed as I have since bought an LR32 kit with an extra 1400 rail.

You are not alone, I offered to pay the extra $60 at the time to upgrade on the rails when I bought my TSC and I was told no can do as the rail comes with the saw so I've ended up now with two standard 1400 rails, where it would have been nice to have one of each.

Slight tangent ... I haven't seen any nice LR32 rail third party add on alignment doodads for repetitive work.

Back on ...

I was lucky enough to think ahead and get the 1400 LR32 and since got the 2424 LR32.

One that I think should REALLY be LR32 is the rail that comes with the MFT/3 ... yes it's multi-function, but with a bit of n-1 going on in the function count [sad]

Any chance anybody has looked into making a jig, or coordinating with a machine shop, to have/make the unholey rails made holey?

Just do it yourself.  All you need is a 1400 LR32 rail... ;)

And remember that the holes in the LR 32 rails are NOT round.
