Do you recognize this rock?

I spotted this “rock” outside the front door to Starbucks.  None of the employees there know what it is for, and indeed, until I brought to their attention, none were aware of it.They don’t know if it was placed by Starbucks Corporate, or by the mall’s management.

It is about 12” long by about 12” wide and about 8” tall.  It is almost certainly made from plastic.

Tomorrow will heft it to get an idea of the weight and take a peek at the underside to see if anything is written there.

There appears to be some sort of plug for a hole.  Does anyone recognize the logo?

Not particularly important, but small things amuse me since I retired. [smile]

That wavy shape is probably a "lock" similar to the locks you see on paper towel dispensers.

Almost nobody pays attention to or is curious about their surroundings nowadays.  I'm not surprised that none of the employees didn't even know it was there.  Someone could have placed it there while they were arriving to work and they probably still wouldn't have noticed.

Humans are notoriously bad at seeing things unless they're paying attention to them.  It's an evolutionary coping mechanism that allows our oversized brains to focus only on what is immediately important.

I guess some uncharitable person might use something like that to try and gather peoples passwords and login details when they're using the wifi?

If nobody knows why its there they can't complain when someone takes it to bits.

Thanks.  I’m glad you answered before I went back.  I don’t think I wanted to pick that rock up.

Most definitely the same rock. (I don’t suppose there is a house key hidden under that rock.)
