Hi all,
Just wanted to show you how beautiful Tasmanian Blackwood can be.
This box is 370mm x 270mm x 100 odd mm. Boards were cut to size using a TS75 for subsequent finger jointing on a Leigh D4R jig. (1/4" fingers). As usual, I prepared the surface for finishing with the RO150 from 100 to 400g. Tassie Blackwood shows swirlies badly, so careful sanding in RO mode is essential. After saturating with Scandinavian oil, the box was sanded again with the 400g pad previously used and then through to 4000g (Platin 2 at 2000 and 4000g). EEE Ultrashine was used as the final cutting agent and then the whole thing finished with UBeaut Traditional wax.
The base of the box is Surian, or Malaysian Cedar and the handle is a 28mm home made Maccassar Ebony domino. The lid consists of two pieces of Blackwood joined with 6x40 dominoes.
Regards,
Rob
