After building a coffee and end tables last year , it finally got to me and I had to do something about the plastic dog bowl stands. The water bowl was great for one dog but with the new addition we needed a much bigger water bowl and two food bowls.  I cut some scraps down and made veneers for the top. Glued those down to a plywood substrate and then added maple around the top.  The stretchers are the leftovers from the previous tables so they match perfectly. The legs on the coffee and end tables are taller and tapered, but the dog bowl stand just got straight legs because they are only 11 inches tall. 4 coats of lacquer sprayed on the top should save me from ever having to refinish it, but we shall see over time.

Like the bowl stand.  Good looking dog also.  I have two boxers.

Thank you. I have a 12 year old and a 9 month old boxers. The old boy has been a shop dog all his life and is perfectly content covered in sawdust laying under the workbench. The little guy is a shop dog in training. How old are yours and are they happy in the shop as well ?

My female is 5 and she wants nothing to do with the shop. The male is 9 months and he loves being out in the shop with me.

My silly lab would eat the bench ... almost 9 years old and still crazy like a pup [embarassed]

Great idea. I have a bent laminate one (purchased before I had time for woodworking). It is healthier for the dogs to eat and drink from a stand like that. My 10 year old standard poodle has always been a shop dog. Once he hears "workshop" he raced down the stairs and sits at the door to the shop. My son's 3 year old standard poodle is too energetic to understand the therapeutic nature of the workshop.  ;)

Much like Kev's lab, I used have a Malemute, Kayak, that was half wolf...weighed 120 pounds and was the sweetest dog born.  I had a chain link enclosure and built a large solid wood doghouse.  He ate the top, dug a hole underneath and spent his sleeping time there.  the pen had 7' high fencing... he would go to the corners and and walk his way out, I had to put triangle tops over the corners.  I lived in a rural area and had a neighbor a short distance away.  He would call me and say that my wolf was exercising his feeder steers again.  Thank god he liked Kayak almost as much as I did.  Kayak just liked to watch them run, as soon as they were moving he would sit and watch.  There was a 4 year old boy that lived next door that was Kayak's best friend.  Kayak would grab the boys belt from behind, spin him in a circle a couple times, let him go and watch the boy stagger around.  The two of them would do this until they found something else to occupy their time.  This was in the early 70's.  If I could have recorded this I probably would have a couple million hits on You Tube.

Whatever kind of pup you have they become part of the family. They all find ways to make ya laugh and drive you nuts, but the shop isn't the same without them!
