Dominno in-store demo

My local Festool dealer (Monterey, California) called this morning to tell me that they would be having a factory rep demo the new Domino on February 15. They also said introductory price will be $660 for the basic unit, $720 with the two guides, but they had no price for any bundle with the second Systainer w/domino assortment & extra bits. Has anyone else heard this?

What earthly good would a dominno be without the $200 box?  Seems It would be very limited for a lot of money.

The $200 cutter/domino assortment box is actually a pretty good deal considering the retail prices of all the components.  The Systainer is $48, the 4 cutters add up to $114 so that equals $162. Then the 1105 dominos work out to about $0.035 each.

Unless you have a specific need for a certain type of wood, I think it would be foolish to skip on that deal. You can't make your own dominos for less than what Festool is charging for them. You'd spend that much in electricity alone.

Having a systainer for parts is something that helps me out tremendously. I always lose or misplace small items and it makes me go insane looking for them when I need them. The extra systainers solves that problem for me. Well worth the money, IMO.

The cutters, they are what they are...

Having said the above, I'm not getting the domino right away. I have to wait until I can justify it with a specific job and need.

1.  You dont need the box to use the Domino -- just need tenons which you can buy separately or make.  The $200 item includes tenons, bits for multiple tenon sizes (which you dont need unless you want to make multiple sizes of tenons) and the systainer box, which is unnecessary to the functioning of the system, but sure is handy to keep things organized and convenient.
2.  You could ask the same question of a biscuit joiner without biscuits, a drill or router without bits.  A tablesaw does not come with a thin kerf blade or a dado set.  We could multiply examples, since it seems that woodworking power tools are the "hardware" which always seem to require "software" as well.

Yes.  I would be very disappointed if I spent all the money on the dominno and had to order more bits and dominnos if I had a different project come up.  I just think they should offer a deal on the box of goodies when you get the full meal deal on the dominno...free would be nice.

Now I will buy the box when I win the....
