Domino 2 22.5 degree miter together?

I have some 3/4" to 13/16" thick back panels of a island that need to be jointed together at 45 degree angle.  What is the best way to completed this task with the domino 500?  Thanks for your input

What is the panel thickness?

Set the angle fence to 22.5º, set the fence height so the mortices are to the back of the panel, do a test cut on scrap, make sure it does not plunge through, use limited glue in the mortices and along the edge, miters are harder to pull together don't want glue hydraulic locking the joint, use masking tape and hot melt glue to adhere clamping blocks, align, clamp.

The problem you'll run into is that if you reference off the inside face, the outside of the joint will not be aligned due to the 1/16" difference in boards.  Is it going to be a visible joint?  You might get away with this if it's against the wall and the thicker piece is the side that's visible.  Alternatively, you could do a bunch of test on scraps where you vary the fence height on each piece, and see if you can define a setting that will give a perfect outside corner.  I would recommend that you use one of the presets/stops for one of the height settings, so you can easily return to that setting when you do the real joint.

Sorry they will be the same thickness they will just fall in that range.

Ok -- then you're good.  Just reference off the inside edge on both then at the same height.  You want the fence to be at the lowest possible setting so the domino doesn't burst through on the diagonal (mortise should be as close to the inside face as possible).  No more than 5mm domino for this operation.  And go with the gluing advice of [member=4105]tjbnwi[/member] -- I burst the mortise through the ply the first time I did a mitre joint with the domino because I didn't account for the hydraulic pressure of the glue.  I only do those mortises on the medium (rather than narrow) setting as well.
