Domino 500 depth of cut problems

I purchased a domino 500 yesterday.  I was testing it out today and all my depth of cuts are 3 mm short.  My 12mm depth is actually 9mm, 15mm is 12mm, etc.

I've searched on google for anyone with similar problems and I can't find anything.  It makes me think it's user error but the depth gauge is a no brainier and I'm not stupid.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I am sure you will get better replies from those far more experienced than myself, but here goes...

I am new to Domino myself, but was just wondering which size cutter you are using? I believe the 4mm cutter is shorter than than the rest.

Also, on the opposite end of the scale, when I was playing with my new toy on scrap I accidently tried to plunge beyond the maximum for the 5mm cutter, and was wondering why it was giving me strange results (the cutter shank would bottom out on the material) then I read the manual and found out you can't go to deep. I will assume this is also the case for the 4mm cutter.

I guess I should have done some more trouble shooting before I posted!  The bit that came with the domino either broke or came that way.  I compared it to the bit that came with my dominos systainer and it was noticeably longer.  Depths are about 1mm longer now than the setting depth.  Much easier to work with that.  I can't believe I broke a bit, was so careful and working mostly with mdf  [mad]

So not stupid just impatient.  [embarassed]

Glad you discovered the issue.  It may not have been anything that you did wrong.  It is not unheard of to find embedded metal in sheets of mdf.

I broke my 5mm bit second cut, poor technique on my behalf. Luckily I had bought the complete kit with the the Domino so had a spare.

Interesting...

As I was reading the first post in this thread, the very first thing that came to mind was, "I wonder if he got a bit that was too short for some reason?"

At any rate, glad you figured it out.
