I'm was cutting mortises for cabinet door frames when I notice that the slots created by my domino xl are not very parallel to the face of my stock. Long story short, the flip down plate when set at 90deg to the cutter face is not really square. This results in inaccurate cuts no matter how careful I am in holding the tool in position. It is set with a ball bearing into a detent on the slide mechinism. There seems to be no adjustment for squaring the flip plate to the cutter face. I'm hoping someone out there might be able to help. Thanks for reading this post.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to read about your difficulties. The most common reason for cuts like you're describing is plunging too quickly, which causes a climb cut. If you're confident that is not the cause, then I would recommend that you initiate a repair for your Domino.

If it's been less than 30 days since your purchase, you could also opt to exchange it for another Domino XL with your dealer.

Shane, thanks for the tip and advice. I'm new to this tool and not yet that familiar with using it. The clime cut tip makes sense. I checked square again on the fence plate and cutter face with a bit more care and indeed found them to be square. So, unless the pendulum action is not parallel to the fence, the material is either shifting during the cut or I'm shifting the tool or both. My gut says the later. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same experience I've had? Thanks again for taking the time to comment. Jay.

Could you try a test cut in a soft wood plunging slowly and check the mortise for squareness?

I sort of use my body to move the hand controlling the plunge rate. It's kind of like hand planing where the body moves the hands holding the plane. That way, I don't accelerate the cutter into the wood. I get a smooth even entry. I also apply downward and forward pressure to the fence to be sure it doesn't move.

Hi you dont mention dust extraction, this is important for either domino and could easily affect results. and do plunge slowly
