Domino 'Center Finder'

I threw this together as quick fix for issues I was having when face to face domino-plunging odd-shaped work pieces, at a funky angle (imagine joining a thin board to the middle a 12" diameter circle to make a big letter 'Q')

It's the same concept as a dowel-center finder, which (if you're unfamiliar) is just a metal plug with a small spike that you insert into your first dowel hole, carefully line up the board to be joined, and the spike makes a small perforation on the adjoining board - for perfectly aligned drill hole location.

This is just a domino cut in half, with three small brads sticking out.

I used it for a small (baby) Adirondack rocking chair project whereby I had already cut my work pieces to odd shapes, with lots of face to face joinery.  It made for short work, with substantially less measuring, and every joint was dead on.

Anyway, I doubt I'm the first guy to try this, but maybe it'll help someone.  I've since cut one for all domino sizes.

Attached is a photo of my 'Domino Center Finder', next to a dowel and dowel center finder for reference.

Would love thoughts on how to improve.  (The Festool rep at Highland Woodworking thought it was a cool idea, but I think he just wanted to sell me a tracksaw  [smile])

Excellent idea! I can use it tomorrow for some shop shelving I'm going to be putting up. Thanks for posting.
