Domino Cutter Endurance

I am going to be using my Domino XL building a bunch of Ipe benches. I plan to use 8mm X 100 Sipo tenons.

There will be approximately 30 tenons per each of 10 benches or about 300 cuts.

Question....... How many mortises will my 8mm cutter cut in Ipe before it needs to be replaced? I understand Ipe is one of the hardest woods in this world and, if necessary, I want to have a back up cutter on hand if the first one dulls quickly.

I would get one (or a couple) on order not just to cover the original going blunt but in case of breakage.

If this is a project for a customer, have an extra cutter on hand. If it is a personal project and time is not of the essence ordering when the need arises is not a big deal.

Personally, I have extra cutters in stock.

The cutter should not dull that fast from Ipe, i have done quite a bit of work with it using the 8, 10 and 14 mm cutters and they don't seem any worse than when they were new and the only bit i have snapped was the 5mm bit that came with my 500 and that was in plywood of all things.

I'll ditto Tom's advice.  To have a spare is wise.  A delay that could have an effect on you reputation is not worth it.

Good advice. I ordered several spares. They are on sale so I saved a few bucks.
