Domino for deck- completed

Lowes sent me a stack of non-grooved Trex decking; but, rather than return it for the grooved stuff, I used it as an excuse to buy a Domino and make my own "grooves" (so I could use the hidden fasteners I had purchased).  So after about a thousand mortises and some sore forearms I ended up with this (and a Domino!!!).  I tried a slot cutter and considered other types of fasteners; however, I'm glad I went this route because it's a very clean appearance and a solid connection.

The railing was fun to build using my new Domino.  Now it's time to enjoy a few cold ones and grill a steak... And start on some patio furniture with the leftover Ipe!

End table completed

Nice job, but what are those yellow things on the decking  [eek] I've still got a few myself, slowly turning green!  [big grin]

Nice job! I've been trying to justify a domino but haven't  been able to yet! I will get there some day I hope!

Which deck fastener were you using?

I used the Trex fasteners, really only because I had already purchased them.  If I had to it again I would have went with the FastenMaster Tiger Claw system- I've heard good things.

I'm making the railing with Ipe, using Dominos and I'll post pics of the process soon.

I started the railing project, using Ipe that I bought from some guy on Craigslist.  The hand rail and the bottom rail will be T shaped, then black, 26" balusters in between.  I ripped all the pieces with the TS75, cut to length with the Kapex, and using 8mm sipo dominos (and Gorilla glue).  Is it just me or is Gorilla glue a pain to work with?  Is it easier to wipe clean or chisel after?

Any suggestions on the project would be helpful!

Either Seth or that dog didn't listen to the warnings over the PA and took the brown acid from the Neil Young concert.  [eek]

Rust Never Sleeps!  [big grin]

First section of railing complete.  The Ipe, or Brazilian walnut, is hell on drill bits; but, it makes for a sturdy railing!  My mini me Max snuck in for the photo. [big grin]

Great job on the deck, looks fabulous.
And your dog pic is sooo funny, luv it!

Having just completed 8 Ipe benches, I really appreciate what you did with the deck and the Ipe railings. Nice work.

What do you feed that dog, LSD laced kibbles?
