Domino from China?

If you buy stuff from AliExpress & Co, you may get tools that work for a while, but never expect them to be the real thing - it simply won't happen. For some things it's worth a compromise, but if you are looking for Festool, I would buy from an authorized dealer to ensure I get the right stuff. Otherwise I could just as well buy whatever crap the local hardware store sells - it's probably better than the clones anyhow.

I suspect most of us on FOG are here because we understand that you get what you pay for.

Could not agree more.  Paying the price at an authorized dealer is worth it to me.  You know the tool is authentic.  You know the warranty (in the unlikely event its needed) will be honored.  You know the dealer meets Festool standards for service provided.  You know where to get accessories.  You know where to get questions answered.  You know if you don't like it in 30 days you can take it back no questions asked.  You know its true not too good to be true.  You know…I would personally not go another route other than an authorized dealer.

Shane,

i bought a domino XL on ebay a while back and i've always been a concerned about it since i didn't realize about the cautions until after i purchased it on an impulse then did some research afterwards.  the seller had several on sale and all were over a hundred less than new and the XL was a recent release at that time.

Could you check my ser # when you get a chance?  10108574

i used to troll ebay alot back in the day as a pastime but it's really gotten worse and worse as a place to shop in my opinion.  i've been burned on software too.  it's not worth trying to save a few bucks to no buy from an authorized dealer.

Thanks,

VR

Victor,

I can't readily check our database of serial numbers of tools reported stolen. What I can say is that tool was originally shipped to an authorized dealer in CA in June of 2012.

We don't always get serial numbers with tool registrations. If you have any information about the seller (name/address), I can see if the they originally had the tool registered in their name if you want me to check. Please PM or email that information and not post it publicly.

I would always caution someone when buying on eBay and the seller has multiples of the same model of tool. To me, it just seems a little fishy.

I just purchased a domino 700 on ebay, was that a mistake?

A tool purchased from someone who purchased from an authorized dealer would entitle you to have the warranty transferred to you.

There were 5 Domino XLs being sold by a single guy on eBay and it was reported here. I took it upon myself to try to contact the seller and asked for a serial to verify it was not stolen and got no response. That alone raises an eyebrow. If you or one of our other forum members bought one of those five XLs, please send me the serial number and I'll check to make sure they are not reported stolen. Just odd for one person to have five NIB tools that are all the same model.

Shane,
The guy you're on about on ebay has actually had a few listings going on (I've been watching) he had five for sale on an auction format and five on a buy it now basis. He then relisted the XL,s once the first lot had sold (very quickly) . Looks very suspect, and like you said they don't respond well to sensible questions from potential buyers. Definitely buyer beware on this occasion....
