Greeting!

I am new to the forum, well sort of. Been reading and laying low until now. I confess, I am a tool & Festool junkie, just like most of you. Need some help from those of you smarter then me. I have a handrail, that I need to join up, and want to use the Domino. I have included pictures of the 2 rails. I can cut the tenons square to the cut face of the rail, but I don't know how to register alignment on both opposing faces so the will line up. I want to make two tenons, one on top of the other, in each cut face. Anyone have an idea on how to register the Domino against both faces so they would be the same? Thanks for the help guys, from one junkie to another.

By the picture, it looks like you have a flat surface on both parts. I could be wrong however. I would center line off the two parts and set my height for each domino. I haven't tried this myself but you may want to brush on some Dykum layout fluid on the tip of the cutter head and run the cutter head forward to make a mark on each part. Dykum is dark blue so it should show up well. After the layout marks are on each part measure them to see if they line up correctly.

I just picked up the Domino yesterday. The first task I tackled with it was joining Oak plow(rail) like you are attempting. All the mortising was done from the bottom of the plow, alignment (left to right) was done with the guide pins or the trim stop attachment. For goose neck and return parts to your rail, I would use 2 5X30 tenons stacked on top of one another. The splice joints will accept a single 10X50 tenon. The only problem I ran into, which was very minor, was lining the pin against the bottom parting bead of the rail. Even then, the end result was near perfect! Very minimal sanding, basically polishing, after all the rail was installed.
