Let me say how impressed I am with the Festool Domino system. I bought one of the first available from Eagle Tool in Los Angeles, which had the retractable pins. Earlier this year I felt the need for a second Domino joiner, so one could be left set up with 4mm bit. The newer joiner has the flip stops.

My experience is both have their uses, so I consider myself lucky to have one of each. When I am not indexing from the last mortise, I do usually prefer the flip stops.

After I started making many parts using the nested router for months I continued making the Domino mortises manually. Then a couple of months ago I invested in some 4mm and 5mm bits I can use on the CNC router. This method is most effective on the flat part of sheet goods. In theory the corresponding mortises could be made in the edges using the nested router, but I can actually make those as well and as fast manually now that I am experienced with the Domino joiner.

To be fair, the Domino is the Festool that for me has required the most practice and has had the longest learning curve. Still, The Domino beats all other mortising methods. These days I rarely use a plate joiner or pocket screws making face frames.
