Domino & Mitered Frame & Panel doors

I was hoping you would get some response- I also want to know if the Dominator uh Domino is the ticket for mitered cabinet doors

Me too!  After reading this post the first time, I jumped over to the Festool USA site to look at that Domino video...  again.  They did show some examples of some miter joints.  They sure make using the Domino look, well, fun.

I have an office project coming up & think I will try the domino to make the raised door panels ( for glue up) and mitered frames for the doors.  Should be able to save $$$$ from ordering the mitered frame doors from my door shop.

I just glued up two 13 x 19 panels of teak from rough sawn 5/4 x 2+" teak shorts.  Cut 3 mortises in each of 6 boards for each panel using a tight fit on both ends and +3mm in the center.  30 mortises total and everything fit together perfectly.  Only took 2 or 3 minutes w/ the rotex to flatten the panels out after the epoxy setup.

Fred,
thanks for sharing your experience.
I guess I am stealing cdconeys thread - but does anyone have a good experience with the mitered frames

While I have not made any cab. door frames, I have done mitered door and window casing using the Domino with no problems. Unlike some other forum members who prefer alignment pins and/or spacer blocks I simply make thin alignment marks on both miters and cut the mortise on the 'tightest' setting. So far, so good. I've found the plastic alignment scale on my Domino is right on the money.

I have made mitered picture frames with the Domino and it is excellent - no visible fasteners, great alignment, and well executed.  I just indexed from the long point on the miter with the Domino index pins using a stack of rare earth magnets detailed in another post to get the distances consistent and centered in the miters.
