domino not cutting square?

I have a few things to bring up about Festool alignment issues. I purchased my Domino from my local Woodcraft retail store. Unfortunately at my Woodcraft, Festool power tools, like the Domino, are usually only available in stock as the single item of that type. As a result, my Domino was almost like a "display" model. Employees and shoppers were able to try it out in the store. I think this type of use, or abuse, can lead to misalignment issues for the actual purchaser because you don't know how the tool has been handled. I know that my Domino had a misalignment similar to that in the thread "Minor Domino Issue", but not as serious. Loosening the scale and realigning it worked for me (just barely though and without having to resort to filing screw heads or widening holes on the scale). If I had prior warning that I shouldn't have needed to align anything, I would've contacted Festool support or returned it to Woodcraft. However, there was no information in the box about how to proceed in such a situation. As a woodworker with other tools, I'm used to having to do a little alignment, even on new tools. This is usual for most other tools, but not for Festool.

I think an informational flyer about misalignment issues in the systainer would be a good idea. I also think that retailers should not be allowed to sell a "display" model. They should be required to stock enough inventory to sell a "new" product.

I had an issue I thought was an alignment problem like you mentioned.  As it turns out, it only has to do with how you lock the fence after a height adjustment, as there is a little play on the side opposite the "step" guage.  Be sure to press down on the right side (the other side) after adjusting the depth guage, then lock the lever.  Since I started doing this, it is perfect.

I don't have a picture to post.  Let me know if you need more clarification.

    I would think if it's a demo model it should be discounted accordingly, if not personally I would return it without further adieu and get a new one from Marino, but that's just me. dan

No store should be selling you as new any item that has been used as a demo.  I'd take it back and order a new one, or send it to Festool for a complete checkup.  Festool has openly stated on FOG that you shouldn't need to be fussing with such setup or alignment of a new Domino machine.  Mine did not need any adjustments, except to its operator (fence creep during the first set of mortises I machined).

Do as suggested - return it for a new one. No dealer should be selling a store demo model.

Listen to your Uncle Bob...I think that your Woodcraft store ain't complying with Festool's marketing guidelines. My understanding is that Festool OWNS all the demos... they are not to be sold. This way they can pull the plug on a non-compliant dealer.
