Hi,

Maybe even a new question.  Hopefully.

Anyways, if I have a narrow piece of wood, say 1/4" thick, between two other pieces, is their any reason that I can not make a through hole in the narrow piece, insert the dominos, glue and clamp it?

It should work.  Or am I missing something?

Thanks,

edg

Nope ... that's perfectly doable, just make certain you get your depths sorted out and you'll be fine!

It sounds like you are cutting the mortise in the multiple pieces all at the same time.  I would be sure the multiple pieces are perfectly aligned and well clamped before cutting. The side-to-side cutter action could mess up the alignment if the pieces get loose.

I think I would glue the 1/4 inch piece to one of the larger pieces first and then cut the domino mortise into the combined piece. I believe that would be a safer and more accurate approach

Good suggestion, if you have concerns about aligning the 1/4" piece to one of the main pieces then consider attaching it to a sacrificial piece and then separating, or even put the domino slot in a wider piece of the accent material and then cut your 1/4" strip from it.  Lots of options I'm sure you'll get the one that works for you.
