Domino Tenon Sizes ????

Several places online state the Domino 5 mm thick tenon is either 18 or 19mm wide. the same goes for the othe 3 widths. they differ by 1 mm. can anyone tell me the true width please? i am laying out a big project in Solidworks and am just about to order this neat machine.

The 5 mm tenons are 19 mm wide, 6 mm tenons are 20 mm wide, 8 mm tenons are 22 mm wide and the 10mm are 24 mm wide. These are approximate numbers.

As usual, Brice is spot on...

It has to do with the fact that the axis of the bit has the same lateral motion no matter what tenon/bit you are using. Because the diameter of the bit is bigger with bigger tenons, it reaches farther outboard from the axis of the bit and the tenons are correspondingly wider to get a snug fit in the mortis created.

'Same travel of the chuck with bigger bit equals wider mortis.

I've had my machine since they were introduced and use it all the time.  The other day I was working on something and got to wondering why nobody, or maybe they have and I missed it, has asked for some tenons the size of widest mortise setting.  As I'm typing I'm having a senior moment so I can't remember what exactly I was doing at the time but it seemed like a good idea.

I make my own loose tenons to fit the max width and max depth available on the domino. I make them the appropriate size so they fit snug but not tight like the genuine article.

Simply thickness long stick to 10mm, rip to width and round over with a roundover on the router table. Then cut to length on bandsaw, tablesaw or by hand.
