Domino tenons from Taytools

I tried some and have gone back to Dominos.
The “grooves” in the sides do not disperse the glue as evenly as the Festool, also they do not have any size markings on them.

Sometimes fit would be a little off.

All in all I have had a better experience with the original, hence my return to them.

If you use a ton, maybe the price difference is worth it...

The Amazon user reviews seem to be good, and the deep price difference means it is a better alternative than making your own.

It would be nice if someone made alternative widths for the domino, not just the factory sizes so I dont have to waste time doing it myself.

What alternative width? Wider than standard for elongated mortises?

I'd like to see third party tenon offers for mortises cut at the widest mortise width setting, for example, for occasional cases (narrow drawers) where one wide mortise works better than two standard mortises.

Do the grooves make the glue joint stronger? I know some dowels are grooved but some are not. Old school mortise joints are not usually grooved. When possible I've used Festool Dominos but have had cases where I have made custom ones without grooves.

Thanks,
Mike

Since the dominoes and the mortises are not a mirror image/exact match of each other (with voids/gaps on the sides), any variance (variation?) on the grooves on the sides should not be a huge concern.

Extra-wide dominos would be nice

Hi Mike,

To my knowledge the grooves help the glue „squeeze back out“ and not being trapped behind the tenon.
I also think that they allow the glue to better distribute around the tenon.

But as I stated above, my limited experience with one pack of „grooved“ 5x30s was mixed.

I also like the idea of wide dominos for the widest setting on the 500 at least.

I got one size of these, but it's too early to tell.  But I was using something similar from Woodcraft with grooves, before I got the Domino, and they were excellent.  These are no longer sold, unfortunately.
