Cool vid, thanks for that.  Whats with the long lengths of Domino ?

Hi

I'm Simon who works with Tom, I am a real user of Festool tools mainly building kitchens and bedrooms. Having actually had the tool in my mitts I thought I'd chime in.

With regard to the long domino lengths I can see them being used to align large joints. Imagine you are making a cross from say 60mm square stock, one central upright and two side wings. With the XL domino you can plunge all the way through the centre and 70mm into each wing requireing a 200mm domino and giving perfect alignment from side to side. You also don't need to stock lots of different length doms just a long length of each size.

Hope that makes sense, Simon

I know what you mean I think!  Done a quick sketch up to explain it visually!

I think its a good idea as it halves the amount of mortise holes you have to do in the centre piece because your going right through!  Quicker easier and more accurate!

another idea would be if your joining a few 70mm or less pieces together like a work top or chopping board or something.    You can go through the lot and then bang one large domino through!  Again quicker easier more accurate????

Hi Tom or Simon.  Can you give us in NA an idea of its pricing?  I suppose quoting what the price is for the regular Domino and that of the new XL in pounds, would give us a relative idea of how much more theXL will cost in our market over here possibly.

To Festool NA, is there a tentative NA release date yet for the XL?

Hey Kevin.

In the UK the price is £924 for the Domino Plus set.  All of the DF 500 attachments will fit the DF 700.

As for a NA price, that's a question for FestoolUSA I think.  You could probably work out the ball park by comparing the UK price for the Festool DF 500 UKDF 500 against the US price ?

So with a retail price of $924 CDA for a Domino DF500, that would make the XL DF 700 when it comes out in Canada come out to around $1300 or so.  But of course, we'll have to wait and see.

Shane remarked that NA gets some stuff about 6 months after it hits Europe.

Using that as a guide, we may be able to touch one at JLC next year.

Edit:

Here is a link to Shane's post on this matter.

Much appreciated.  I was on holidays when he added those dates in early August, and had missed it completely.
