Domino XL DF 700

Well the Current Domino DF500 is about £640  soooo I would say the Domino XL DF700 would be about £800-£900

No, the dust is escaping because of the rebate so the face of the Domino isn't in full contact, that's letting the some dust get away.

That makes sense.

Hopefully the fence locking mechanism is more robust than the current model. I have had the fence creep on me multiple times however hard I tighten it. From the pics it seems to be a better design.

Look like it's just a single stage oscillating action, that is tight fitting only.
Could also be usefull for cutting out for small mortic locks.

Good point, it should do a 65mm mortise lock no problem.  The bigest cutter is only 14mm though, a lock needs 16mm does it not ?  Could do it from both sides though.

Damn, that's one big Festool!

I don't think I'll get one, simply don't see what I would do with it. But I want one anyway  ;D

I see this being used for making doors and bigger furniture (beds etc), but not much else. Those of you considering getting one, what do you intend to use it for?

I'm not so sure, take a look at these pictures.  In the first picture look at the top of the Domino it looks like what could be a window showing the mortise width and a lever to change the settings on the side.  Second is a better shot of the lever (Greg's picture).

Thanx for the new link, I've been having a problem with Flash player crashing Windows 7 so I thought it might have been my laptop. The Domino XL looks like another great innovation and problem solver from Festool.

Brice,

If Shane actually used this thing, why isn't he answering this?

Keeping us all guessing Christian?

Maybe it's time to give a few specifications?

Like min/max depth, cutter sizes, fence depth, motor power,weight...well you get the idea...but would that spoil the fun?

Festool did a great job inventing this technology, the problem is that it's completely patented and no other brand has the right to copy it.
the XL looks like a nice tool for bigger projects, though the fact that they want it portable requires limitations in mortise width, length, depth and power. i would prefer to see this technology used in a stand alone tool. basically like a horizontal mortiser, wich is a tool that hasn't changed in the past 50 years.
who knows, even improve it with two chisels at both end wich square off the mortise. then you will have something revolutionary that every shop in the world will need to posses.

You can bet your bottom dollar that it will be coming to the US.  There's far too much money making potential for it not to.  The question will be when, my guess, fall of 2012.

You can bet your bottom dollar we will get one first  [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin]
