Domino xl imperial scale

Just so you guys are aware I emailed Seneca woodworking and they updated the web page the next day. The imperial gauge is available for the domino 700. Got mine on order.

You bet I had be holding off on getting the domi shims and rts adapter tell the imperial guage was done. I emailed Thursday night and asked when it would be available. I got a reply the next day saying the updated the website and could be ordered. So I got all 3 on the way.

So which one of the 3 versions gives you the most bang for the buck based on standard material thickness used in woodworking? (each are ~ $55 bucks a pop). Malte

Model 1 (part number: D7IG01) fence Indexes of 5/8”, 3/4“, 7/8”, 1”, 1-1/8"

Model 2 (part number: D7IG02) fence Indexes of 1”, 1-1/8”, 1-1/4”, 1-3/8”, 1-1/2”

Model 3 (part number: D7IG03) fence Indexes of 5/8”, 3/4”, 1”, 1-1/4”, 1-1/2”

I went with number 3 figured i used those thicknesses the most.

Using this, does it change how the XL calculates to Thickness rather than distance to the center of domino?

In other words does it now work as the 500 rather than the 700XL?

I would like to see if I am understanding this correctly.  Their domi-shims are for nominal plywood (ie 3/4" is really less than 3/4") whereas the imperial scale is for true 3/4" thickness lumber.

I just received mine. As I should have thought about it more before I purchased it, it remains true to the 700XL system -- by that I mean the measurements are the distance to the center of the bit to the fence  ----  not the thickness of the material.

Since a lot of what I use mine for is 3/4" it will not help me much and will probably sell mine before I install it.

If anyone is interested in getting one of these please contact me. I have the #3 version (5/8, 3/4, 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2)

George, do you have the domi-shims?  If not, that is the way to go. I rarely change my fence height with them on unless I need an offset or am working with other material thickness.

I do have the plates, but I really don't use them either. A bit of a pain to put on and off.
I have a system where I really don't need them for 3/4" ply.

Center line of 3/4" is 9.5mm. If you put the fence all the way down it is 9mm  -- close enough for the end pieces. Then for the surface pieces i made a spacer that clips against the edge and the then plate goes against it. You do have to make sure you keep the reference surfaces straight though.

I agree about putting them on and taking them off. Could be room for improvement there. For now, I just generally incorporate it into my workflow. Not a big deal for me.

I have also used the shim without the edge bolts in play. Just have it lay there under the fence for some quick routes.

I have another plan, just haven't done it up yet.
