Hi Guys,

I just ordered the Domino XL, the 8/10 & 12/14 Assortments.

I would like to get the Seneca Cutter Adaptor and want to know if you think I should get the Assorted Domino and Cutters for DF-500.

Assortment includes 5 Cutters, Domino Assortment Systainer, and 1060 tenons. Tenon assortment: 4 x 20mm (450), 5 x 30mm (225); 6 x 40mm (150); 8 x 40mm (100); 8 x 50mm (75); 10 x 50mm (60). Cutter assortment: D4mm (1), D5mm (1); D6mm (1); D8mm (1); D10mm (1).  Price: $285

Seems to me I would not need the 8 or 10mm cutters but I would get the other cutters, the systainer and the tenons.

Or should I only purchase a couple cutters and tenons piecemeal? If this is the way I should go which cutters/tenons should I go with.

Thanks for the advice!

Matt

Ok so I did some math:

Df-500 Assortment includes:
4x20 450 Dominos
5x30 225 Dominos
6x40 150 Dominos
8x40 100 Dominos
8x50 75 Dominos
10x50 60 Dominos
Cutters: 4, 5, 6, 8, 10
Tenon Systainer
Cost $285

piecemeal:
4x20 450 Dominos $20
5x30 300 Dominos (75 more) $20
6x40 190 Dominos (40 more) $20
8x50 100 Dominos (25 more) $20
10x50 85 Dominos (25 more) $20
4mm Cutter: $35
5mm Cutter: $36
6mm Cutter: $37
Tenon Systainer: $85
Cost $293

Is there any reason I would need the 8/10mm cutters from the DF-500? The 8/10 tenons from the df-500 would be useful though.

I think I just talked myself into the Df-500 Assortment. What do you think?

Thanks again,
Matt

I have the 700 and the 500 assortment.  I like having it all organized and for the larger stuff, i buy the sticks and cut my own or bags of the number I need.

Yes, get the assortment and then sell the 8/10 cutters on eBay (as you will have the 8/10 cutters from the DF-700).  That's what I did.

Get the assortment and keep the extra cutters for the future.

Hi Jack,
Is there a reason I would need them since I have the 8 and 10 withe XL?

I use my Domino so much that it's an advantage to have a spare cutter over time.  After a few thousand or so cuts you might need to have them sharpened or you might inadvertently damage one right in the middle of a project.  I just like to keep spares around.

Matt,

Whether you decide to sell the DF-500 8/10 cutters or keep as spares, keep in mind they are different from the ones for the DF-700 (which can plunge deeper).

That's exactly why I assume I would sell them. I can plunge the needed amount with 700 bits and if one went bad I would replace them.
