Can't really 'review' the xl as I don't have one yet, but am getting one ASAP . Tried it out at the French building show in Paris this week. What really 'blew me away' as you say on the other side of the pond, is that it was actually easier to use than the 500. It moved about even less and cut 70mm tenons into beech like into butter. It seemed to vibrate ven less. The Festool guy's explanation was that because it didn't have the protruding 'alignment thingies' to compress, the non slip pads on the machine made better contact and held the machine more steady. Whatever the reason it was extremely impressive. The locking mechanisms have been improved and for something that will cut such a large tenon it was very soft and smooth. My large 2500 euro mortiser is looking even more like a white elephant.
