Dominofix plate material?

What material is the Dominofix made out of and where do you get it

that makes sense. Does anyone know where to buy this stuff in a more reliable fashion than ebay. That was a good source but I am looking for a commercial source that I can order from.

I know Woodcraft sells small 1' x 1' sheets that are used for zero clearance inserts.

This stuff isn't cheap. I know I priced a 2' x 4' x 1/2" piece several years ago and it was in the $300-$400 range

Tallgrass, I don't know where you live but most major metropolitan areas have commercial plastics distributors...AIN plastics is our stocking distributor. There are various grades of plenolics that can dramatically affect price. Make sure that you use good dust collection and wear a mask as the resins they use for bonding is carcinogenic.

thanks, I live in los angeles. I can find the plain stuff, not the stuff like this with the color covering or sheet. Many of these materials like parklex exist but not really. The other problems figuring out what trade name means what exactly. I wonder if it is a phenolic with a "formica" sheets?

I wonder if that is my solution. buy it and cover it the way I would want? Will the adhesives work on formica and phenolic?

The trouble with phenolics is that there are tons of them and the commercially available ones may not satisfy your requirements if you need one with a specific performance feature.

Let’s approach this in a different manner, in general what are you trying to produce? What are you trying to achieve? What type of surface finish do you want?

There are a lot of folks on this forum that work with “alternative “ materials daily that will probably weigh in.  [smile]

As an engineer, when I run across a new material or product I try to figure out cost and properties. I like the particular surface of this particular type of phenolic. It looks to be wear resistant, more than the usual variety of phenolic.

When I looked into the pricing of phenolic sheet, my idea was also to use the stuff for fixtures and jigs. After finding out how much it cost, I settled on phenolic faced plywood for fixtures when I needed the smooth surface characteristics. A 2' x 4' x 1/2" sheet is $50 compared to $400.

Many of Woodpeckers products are machined from phenolic (MFT square, MFT template, clamping cauls, clamping squares) and it's real nice stuff. The surface is smooth & durable and it rather reminds me of Delrin.

I know Mcmaster sells some forms of Phenolic. I can find the usual stuff but this has a coating or surface that seems different. The contrast in colors between the surface and the base material has benefits.

OK, I have found where is this stuff is used. The question no becomes how to get it. It is Solid Phenolic Core Panels like the ones used in restrooms. So this stuff is everywhere, but in the material stream. Suggestions? Besides raiding the local bathrooms.

That might be different grade of panels then used in router plates or Dominofix jig. It would be extremely expensive for bathroom dividers.

Ya I’d have to side with Svar on this one. Aluminum privacy panels used in bathrooms are a lot cheaper than the equivalent panel in phenolic.

Just to be clear. I have encountered phenolic partitions and locker doors in public spaces, but I think it is of lower strength/quality than router plate stuff.

yes there are different grades and solutions. You are absolutely right. I was not suggesting that this is the only solution for bathrooms commercially. Only that it this common commercial solution  for high pressure phenolic laminate that allowed me to find the stuff with the protective coating. Now it is a matter of finding out if there is a non bulk purchase possibility. here are examples.
