Door mortiser machine

They are very expensive!

Are you doing hundreds of doors?

Maybe consider getting a a high speed drill (festool do one now)
And buying the Souber DBB MORTISER a lot cheaper and does the job very fast.

That GB crew eye catcher is too effective. For the second time in 20 mins I have been distracted from the content/point of your post.  [eek] [smile]

A joiner I worked with had one its about £1000

Its good like just a lot of money all it can do is mortise on doors.

SOUBER DBB £90-100  festool high speed drill £300  and it won't be left far behind in terms of speed.

Plus you have a drill you can use for other jobs!

Hi Peter Kenny,

Don't know if this will help you much, but Aldo at In-Touch Tools in California has a "lightly used" Porter Cable Model 512 Lock Mortiser for only $600: http://store.thefestoolstore.com/product_p/upc512.htm With that savings, you could probably justify having it air freighted over to Ireland pretty quickly. You can contact Aldo at: aldo@intouchhardware.com; he's a "good guy".

Good luck, Dick

I had one.  They are sweet machines.  I sold mine ten years ago when I left the historical restoration side of the industry.

Hey dick
Thanks for that I'll send him a email on now and see what he says to me.. Thanks for that
Cheers peter

I have used mine for cutting mortises for Mortise & tenon passage doors. The only concern I had is the smallest width you can cut is .625" which is a little on the large size for interior 1.375" doors. I would cut the tenons on the shaper with a sliding table & two saw blades spaced the proper dimension for the mortise then I would haunch them and round over with a .3125" round over to fit the shoulders of the mortise.

But that was before the domino 700  [eek]
