To start with I need to thank the Festool staff. Minnie as always made me feel more than welcome. Her ability to order pizza is second to none. (She will understand)

Brian did an excellent job, as he has done for the other classes I have attended.

The item that impressed me the most was the CMS with the router insert. The dust collection is well beyond unbelievable. Some others had taken pictures and videos, they will back this claim.

I had the privilege of having Brice as a "lab" partner. His ability and knowledge of the products clearly showed.

Great Class, Great Time, Great People.  Way to go Festool.

These Classes have honestly changed my life.  If you are ever considering taking one, due yourself a big favor and JUST DO IT!

Thanks for everyone that attended this class.  Chris it was a great pleasure working with you.  Thanks again for dinner.  Its my turn next time.  Brice it was fun chatting with you.  Hope to see you all again in future classes!

Aaron,

Great images!  Looked like fun.  Might be the only way to try out the CMS here in the US.  [sad]

Aaron, thanks for sharing the photos.
I never thought about using the Domino to make a drawer as the one in a photo you had with a "thru domino".  I'm going to try that method out next time I build some drawer boxes.
How about that,  I didn't get to go to the class, but I learned something new!  Thanks for sharing!!

Eric

Those are commonly referred to here as Domidrawers.  You can search and find several threads.  Here is one:  Domidrawers revisited

I will try them on my next drawer project too!

Without a doubt the CMS will be a pricy piece. That said, it just works. There is one item on it that some felt was a little inconvenient, the item may be there to satisfy UL.

I did everything in my power to impress upon Christian, and anyone else who would listen how much I wanted the CMS. It got to a point where it was most probably an annoyance. I will purchase it (I did try to just "take" it, did not get to far) in router only configuration. (Tom, this is my pre order confirmation, MFT configuration). Those who had looked at my pictures from in the bathroom post, would have seen the mess I had to deal with from raising panels for the cabs. The waste on the floor and table when using the CMS will not fill an 8 ounce cup (with the item count used in class).

It was mentioned as to why the saw insert does not pass UL, I will leave that for Festool to share.

I got the impression from Christian, that the CMS will arrive here. I did attempt to get him to commit to a June 1, 2011 arrival date, the answer was no.

The RO90 was also very nice to work with.

The Shinex is well balanced and with an variable speed dial of 600-2100 rpm, well suited for polishing and buffing. The trigger is variable speed allowing for slow start, then limited to the max rpm of the dial setting.

The CSX has a magnetic Centrotec shaft, that is a nice feature. The drill is comfortable to hold and use.

Chris, nice meeting you also. Aaron thanks for sharing the pics. I still think you are an industrial spy with all the pictures you toke. How come there is only about 1% of them on Flickr?????

There were a total of six in the class, two have not posted here, until they do I will not mention them by name. I know it has been an issue before, that said, I did enjoy everyones company.

Darcy,

I hope all went well and your wife and child are healthy.

Tom

Hey guys. Since you got to play with all 4 versions of the Carvex, do you have any preference between the corded and cordless models?

Aaron, I can't make anything out in that third picture. There is this horrible glare off the "golden dome"!!!  [big grin]

Wow you guys sure got to play with a lot of new cool tools!

Sorry,  I always forget to turn the flash off when taking pictures of Brian.  I tried to use the Shinex to give the dome a matte finish, but no dice!

For me the ps400 will be in my arsenal.  Most of my work is indoors and if I am doing any cutting I will be using the CT 22.  But I can see the benefits of the Cordless.

Aaron didn't get a picture of this guy, the CT48.

We all got few pieces of the new Granat foamed backed abrasive for hand sanding.  It's available in 120-800 grit we got the 400. Seems like it might be good for scuffing between coats of finish.

I had a great time seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new guys including Brent Festool's newest employee.  That's not the only new guy we meet, we meet the big, big guy, Dr. Sebastian Reschke.  He's CEO of Tooltechnic Systems (worldwide not just of the US subsidiary).  He came over to chat with me and we had an interesting conversation.  He asked some very good questions.  Seems Tooltechnic and Festool are in good hands.

Chris, good to see you again.  Tom and I had a awesome time as partners.  Aaron and I stayed up until 2am chatting last night (and I got on the road at 6am).

Time for me to chime in. I was the only one in the group with no experience in what we learned. Needless to say, I learned a lot. Unfortunately, there was a minor tool problem with the Domino when making the drawers. I kind of felt inept. But, when Brian had the same problem and discovered the tool was the issue and not me, I was greatly relieved.

I worked with the only other person not mentioned yet. He too made me feel at ease and helped understand the metric measurements better. If you don't use that frequently it is easy to forget what you learned in the past.

I was the only one there with my wife. She has relatives in the area and tagged along. I missed out on some great late night conversations as a result of that. However, the night before the classes we all had dinner together and everyone made her feel comfortable being there.  I appreciated that a lot. I want to go again and need her to be on board for that.

I am sorry I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Brice, Chris and Aaron but please accept my apologies for my social foaux paux. It was a great pleasure to meet everyone and to listen to their great stories and experiences.

Gary

Is that router table released in the US yet????

Is it going to be?

Man that looked sweet.

My wallet fainted when I looked and lusted at it.

Good luck on that Darcy! It's true...you're never properly prepared! We thought we were prepared for baby 2 last summer after our first was 5 weeks early...well mr #2 was delivered 90 minutes after her water broke! That included 25 minutes for the sitter to come to take care of #1 and the 25 minute drive to the hospital through am rush hour traffic! And my wife thought she was prepared!!!

Well wishes to you and your family!!!

Bob

What a great class!!!  I've always had doubts about open router tables based on the amount of dust they seem to let get into the air and all over the place where one is working.  Seeing the CMS add-on for the MFT/3 with the OF1400 and the stand-alone CMS with the OF2200 and seeing how well dust is collected, even when routing door panels has sold me on the idea.  I just can't wait for them to be available here in NA.  The Carvex seems to have made all other jigsaws obsolete.  There will be a corded barrel-grip version in my tool room right after June 1st.  Brian did a great job instructing, as usual, and was full of back-data on the tools and techniques.  Hope you're feeling better now, Brian.  A big "Thank You" to Minnie for having taken care of the background tasks so seamlessly.  As usual, it was a pleasure to see her again.  Thanks, too, to Shane for having joined in when he had the time, and for joining us for dinner Thursday evening.

There was a really great crew in the class, with all of us having expertise in various aspects of construction.  Thanks to every member of the class for your contributions to the benefit of the entire class.  Gary, it was a pleasure to have you as my partner, and to meet your beloved spouse at dinner Wednesday evening.  I hope to see all of you again at other classes.

Meeting Christian again, and meeting Dr. Reschke for the first time was a real treat.  I agree with Brice that the top guys are really interested in creating world-class tools and responding to the needs of the end users, rather than just pushing numbers.  Well done, Festool!!!

Ive been looking into getting a new RT. But now I will wait…patiently for the CMS. That loked like asweet set up.

Aaron, thanks for athe many many photos.  Now, I have a better idea of what I will be seeing when I attend the Cabinet Construction and Installation session in Lebanon on April 18-19.

That's only two weeks away and I am really looking forward to it (in spite of the LONG drive).

My pleasure in sharing the pictures.  The first class I took, cabinet construction, Gpowers(my lab partner) posted all of his pictures of the class.  I was really grateful that he had and felt I needed to do the same.  In fact I think I took the picture he uses as his Avitar.  I hope more people will post their experiences from these classes.  There are always a good laugh at Brian's expense.

Arron you got to the Doors and Drawers class be for I did, And you when to the Corp office. very cool.  I can not justify flying out the the Corp office when the Henderson class room is just a few hours drive form home.

Sounds like a great class.

Did you ever get the OF2200 problems resolved?

Greg
