I am building a set of cabinets and I want to stain the face frame and doors.  What is everyone's recommendation for wood choice?

Poplar is popular, rosewood is nice, birch and maple are nice, teak is nice in a boat, cherry is cheery, oak is white or red, and some pine is blue.

Can you narrow it down with what look are you hoping to achieve?

The doors will be cope and stick raised panel doors.  The stain is going to be a praline color(middle of the road color, not dark and not light).

Well, you can always make lighter wood darker, but you can't easily go the other way.  Maple would be my suggestion based on color, workability, closed grain, and cost.

How much grain do you want to see/highlight. That will determine the wood type more than color.
