Doors & Drawers of Ann Arbor: The New Festool CONTURO Edge Bander

Wow, that's exciting.  It's a well produced marketing video.  Doesn't just seem like an item that's been seeded in the field to investigate the viability of bringing the Conturo to America.  Maybe it's on the way?  That'd be awesome.

Sounds like a leaked video that wasn't due out yet.  I watched it earlier.

As a dealer, you would probably have a better idea than the rest of us.  According to a few places online, it looks like the conturo will be released soon.  On the Festool regional events page, it is indicated it will be available as soon as March 1.

I'd imagine that wouldn't be something you were at the liberty to confirm though [wink]

LOL !

If Festool releases the Conturo in the US, then they NEED to release the VAC SYS !    The two go hand in hand!  I would NEVER buy the Conturo without the VAC SYS.

I also have no clue why the VAC SYS isn't available here already....but I'm sure they have some good reason......the UL thing doesn't fly with me.

Anybody wanna bet how long until it gets taken down?

[wink]

I was told by a Festool regional rep that he couldn't demo a tool unless it was going to be available in the US.

That rep demonstrated the Conturo AND VAC SYS together as a system.    I guess this rep lied to me......but I consider him to be a stand up guy and man of his word.

LOL !    Only time will tell.  My guess is someone let the cat out of the bag.  LOL !

Guys,

Admittedly, YouTube made the video available prematurely even though I marked it to be unlisted. Doh.

Yes, the Conturo is coming to the US/Canada. After all, we demonstrated it at Festool Connect last year, almost a full year ago.

More information is coming soon, so sit tight. All of your questions will be answered soon enough. Until then, enjoy all of the speculation that will be posted. Ha.

And, the events listings on our website will not be removed or removed. They were posted intentionally.

WOW - confirmation rather than denial? Who are you, and what did you do with Shane?

[poke] [big grin] [popcorn]

Hi Shane, Same thoughts as EROCK- NO VAC TABLE NO EDGE BANDER, I mean I can't think of no better way to hold the material. Maybe the vac needs spliced copper wiring  for its motor (harbor fright tools)  [eek]they don't have UL issues.

Sorry, Shane. I should have sent you a PM.
There was a weird warning about posting it on social networks...clearly I should have been doing something else (constructive) instead of causing trouble...

Tim,

Not a big deal at all. There really nothing "confidential" in the video. I would have just preferred that we communicate everything simultaneously and concisely. Having just the video is only a part of the story about the Conturo.

No worries at all, friend.

Shane

Y'all are gonna LOVE this thing!  I certainly love mine!

I hope that Festool also releases the MFT Conturo table insert and beveled adapter insert at the same time.

Agree with those who say the Vac-Sys should be released as well. While not absolutely necessary for the Conturo use, it certainly makes things a LOT easier!

Here's a repeat of my 'first contact' with the Conturo during a demo day at my former Festool dealer in Germany. I bought the whole system and I have to use mine with a 220V step up transformer, but it's no big deal.  Not exactly a winning video here, shot with an iPad, but what the heck... [big grin]

Cheers,

Frank

Morgan, you're certainly right.  In most cases dealers have a preliminary heads up.  In this scenario all I'd heard was conjecture.  Sure there were rumors, but Shane's post in this thread is the first official confirmation from Festool that this item is on the way.  I'm sure excited to see what variation(s) are available (Vac sys, MFT, bevel attachment, etc).

Been waiting for it. March 1!. Just changed the orders of my projects to be able to use it.

I hope they left or there is an option as a 220-240vlt. unit.
The MFT, bevel attachments will be good too.
For me the Vac sys is not a must have, there are other viable options and I don't need another compressor.

Hey Shane, the regional events page made reference to a March 1 release as well as a May 1 release.  Are you at liberty to let us know which it is?  Also, I'd love to see the other elements of the "perfect edge" released is NA, as others had mentioned it is all part of a system that works together.  Based on the fact that you ran a poll a few months ago testing the waters on the receptiveness of the forum in regards to the vac-sys, I'd like to assume that will be released around the same time too.  I commend you for putting an end to the speculation once and for all.  I think it was a smart move which would ultimately pay off for Festool.  There are other similar edgebanding options out there, however now that there is a light at the end of the tunnel I think most of us would be less likely to settle for an inferior product knowing the conturo will be released soon.

Btw, I also have a ka-65 I use with the step down transformer.  But I'd still buy a 110 version, the vac-sys, the MFT top, and the mounting plate, all in a heartbeat.
