Hello Toolnerds,

I build a lot of rolling wheely carts for the workshop, the wife, and other uses, as well as cabinets etc.

In order to make my life easier I built an Excel Cart / Cabinet calculator.
(Disclaimer: Since I am in Germany, this is in metric.)

  • Allows to define height / width / depth of finished piece
  • include drawer slides and wheel sizes
  • inset back panels
  • Overhanging drawers / doors or flush
  • Top and Bottom between sides or on top / below sides (for work-surfaces and heavy duty carts)
  • calculate LR32 holes for slides, hinges etc.
  • lots of little side-calculators for calculating spacings, fronts, story sticks etc.
  • Creates cutlists

I would love to get your feedback, improvements etc.

Hope this helps some of you.

Ooooh. I'm about to start planning a wall -to-wall cabinet build, and I will try this.
I'm UK-based so I appreciate the metric!!

Although I appreciate the power of Excel, I really suck at using it. I built a cabinet door calculator a few years ago to calculate rail widths and panel sizes, it works, but it's clunky. Your piece is a work of art! Organized well and seems to function well too. Nice job and thanks for providing it.

Excuse the dumb questions:

What type of joinery beween the sides and top/bottom of drawers does this assume? E.g. rebates / rabbets v butt joints / miters
What type of 'sliders' does it assume e.g. wooden runners v purchased metal draw slides.

Thanks!

Dear Friends,

I am trying to download this Excellent Excell sheet , but for some reason it, just not download,

Am i doing anything wrong?  [wink]

I don’t know about the particulars of your situation, but I just got it to download for me.  I’m not going to risk opening it though.

It's a zip file. Do you have an unzip program to unzip it? Of course, your device also needs the Excel program to open it. The spreadsheet file seems clean at this end.
