DRC 18v drill

Hello all

I have a DRC 18v drill and having trouble with it, it can hardly drive a screw into wood in any speed or torque. I've sent it into my local dealers who originally told me there was nothing wrong with it. I suggested they try again after we tried to drive a screw into some pine and all we could get was beep beep beep.

Anyway they've come back and basically it's had it. Now I got this 2nd hand so no warranty but what I would like to know is how long have these drills been available for in the UK ?

As for the cost of one of these drills my old Makitas lasted longer and took more abuse. I'm not amused.

I don't think the DRC has been available for 3 years so should still be under warranty, maybe contact festool and they should be able to tell you from the tool number if it was registered.

Have you checked that the battery is seated correctly in the charger?

I know sometimes it doesn't "seat" properly and you might think you have charged it for a while only to find the machine goes "beep beep beep" and the battery is still flat. 

Also put it in high torque or "drill" symbol mode on the dial and make sure you haven't turned it down to a low torque setting.

Check that you got an 18V battery with it and not a lower voltage battery. The lower voltage batteries fit but they will reduce torque in use. 

If you have checked all of the above then you know for sure there is something wrong with the machine.

I have the DRC and it is a strong machine. I have appreciated the extra grip when drilling large holes with hole saws and it is far from weak.

The PDC & DRC drills have been available (in Festool colours) for way less than 3 years. Meaning any drill registered properly will still have some of the 3 years warranty remaining.

As said alread, are you sure it's not user error, either with torque/drill setting or un-charged batteries.
You know about the battery indicator that flashes green after you turn off the LED Light on the drill? Quick flash = empty battery.

It has been available for approx. 2.5 years since the Protool brand was removed from the market. Call into the office and we can check the registration for you.

Thanks for all your replies, I'll be speaking to local agent today regards drill. i have plenty of festool stuff and none has been like this, even my little CXS performed way better.

Update, I spoke to a very nice lady at Festool TTS today who informed me the drill was still under warranty and should be returned to them.

Local agent MacGregor Industrial Supplies Inverness are a total waste of time as they said they could not return the drill to Festool themselves and told me to collect it and return to Festool myself.

This is very unlike our previous agent HIS Ltd who would have done all this themselves.

Ok - good thing the ball is rolling and good luck with it. 
Once you get it sorted I am sure you will like the drill. 

I had trouble getting it into third gear, getting into 1, 2 and 4th gear was fine but I had to try several times to get to third base.

Eventually the drill seems to have "settled" and now I can select and run all gears. Except for that it is a good sidekick to the CXS - or the other way around.
