The standard keyless chuck on my pdc can’t seem to keep a bit tight in it. I need to send it in for warranty but curious about the Keyless Chuck KC 13-1/2-MMFP is it a marked improvement over the stock plastic keyless chuck?

Oooh, I didn't know about this one. So far I haven't had any problem with my two keyless chucks (from the T18 and C18 sets) but I'd still be curious what people who actually own one think of it.

So I ended up ordering the other to compare.

They have the exact same capacity although the metal one appears to have nicer jaws.

The metal one has a ratcheting lock as well. Tighten like normal. Then you hear a few clicks of the ratchet. Back it off one click it’s locked. Back it off one more and it’s free to loosen.  I don’t remember the original plastic one having that feature but it won’t hold a bit no matter what anymore. Then again I wouldn’t be surprised if they both have the exact same internals. Can anyone confirm if the plastic chuck is supposed to have the ratchet lock?

The metal stamping on the metal one is piss poor. It looks like what I would expect from China and not as a Festool part. It’s too bad that Festool can’t seem to produce drill chucks that are even remotely as close to good as Albrecht. It’s the biggest lacking feature of the drills, especially on a drill as powerful As the PDC

Yes, the pdc was the first centrotec cordless to get a chuck with ratchet lock (probably because of the hammermode); before there were many topics of drillbits falling out of keyless chucks, so when the festool drills with the lithium ion batteries were introduced they finally got the chucks with ratchet locks aswell (the pdc was protool then), the pdc chuck does have a smaller outer diameter so the sidehandle can be installed with the chuck in place.

Interesting that you're not satisfied with the stamping. Are you sure it's a genuine part?

And yes, the plastic covered keyless-chuck has the ratcheting & lock as well.

I'm pretty sure both chucks are manufactured by Röhm (Roehm), a very well respected, high-quality manufacturer of all sorts/types of chucks, here in Germany. ->https://www.roehm.biz/home/

Maybe not as high-end as Albrecht, who knows. But I have yet to come across a bad chuck from Röhm.

Kind regards,
Oliver
