Drill for 20mm parf benchdog

I am interested in the Parf Guide, however I would like to assess a drill need first. Do I need a special Drill for this job? I have 2 cordless hitachi (yes...no Festool [embarassed]) and I have not been very happy with their performance. Is a CSX Basic or a TSX Basic able to do the job? I will be drilling most likely into 3/4 BB. Thanks

I have both of thos drills. While they are great drills, I think the T18 would be better suited.

I used a CXS to make one table with the Parf Guide and it worked just fine.  The second one I used a PDC 18.  I will never use my CXS to drill more than a couple 20mm holes again! [big grin]

I have to admit that for tasks like this, I prefer an old-school plug-in drill. That's what I use for pocket screw pocket drilling and would do the same with this particular jig setup. (However, for MFT type tops, I'm setup to use a router, rather than a drill)

Thanks to all of you. The message was quite clear. I will wait for my PARF guide to come and try with the cordless drill I have. At the same time I am looking for a corded drill. I will be using this drill to drill the bench dog holes and all the pockets holes going forward. My current drills get very tired too early!. Suggestion on a corded drill? Unfortunately, it cannot be too heavy. TX

If you buy a second 20mm bit with a Centrotec shank, you can use an adaptor to use the bit with any drill.

No one I know uses a corded drill anymore. From construction to cabinet makers, for a smaller hand held drill everyone has switched to cordless. The key is to use a brushless drill in the 18 volt platform, and preferably with the smaller 2.0aH batteries for weight savings. If you don't already have an impact, I would highly recommend getting a kit with both. My impact is used 10 times more than the drill. As to brands do you like Milwaukee, Makita, or Dewalt? Makita does have an 18 volt compact set that seems well liked by all.

Although 12 volt tools are awesome, they are not a do it all tool vs 18 volt tools.

I drilled my first tracksaw cutting station (2' x 4') with a Makita 18V drill/driver.  That top only had the minimum number of holes required for making square cuts with a tracksaw.  Then I drilled my second 2' x 4' top (what I'll call my assembly top) that had a complete series of holes with the 12V Bosch Flexiclick drill/driver.  The 12V Bosch had no problems drilling the holes, although I think I did need to change batteries part way through.

Since no one mention it, any Festool basic drill do NOT come with battery pack.
