i am in the process of making my own drilling jigs for various tasks but i am finding it hard to find metal guide bushes for the drill bit to pass through i am in the uk and would love to hear if you guys have used or found any suplliers

try Lee Valley as they sell a nice assortment of drill jigs on the cheap.  They call them Bushings and Inserts.  They are reusable and can be changed out of the template you are using.  Also, if you want to use other sizes than what their bushing ID is get some aluminum spacers from McMaster Carr and insert these into the Lee Valley bushing.  An example is get a 1/8" OD aluminum spacer that will fit the Lee Valley bushing and the ID that can be used for a #0 or #2 screw.  There are too many combinations to list and just work your way through it for the correct drill bit size.  By the way an aluminum spacer is disposable if you nick/wear it enough with the bit. 

Don't spend more than $3.00 on each bushing and the spacers are +/- $1.75.
