Drip Edge and Gutter Help

I just replaced some fascia board on my house that I discovered had rotted from water getting behind the gutters. Over the years I guess the gutters worked themselves away from the fascia.

OK - after replacing the fascia I was going to replace the gutters but noticed there was no drip edge. So I buy the drip edge and apply it on a short gutter run and found out the gutter brackets interfered with the drip edge.

I did some online searching and some say to just bend the drip lip and another said to get snips and cut the drip edge on at both edges of the bracket.

Any help appreciated.

If you can’t slide the bracket behind the drip edge and screw it off, cut the drip each on each side of the bracket, fold the cut piece up, install bracket and screw, bend the “tab” over the bracket. This will act as a “flashing”.

Thanks force the reply. That’s what I thought might have to be done.

Yeah - the modern brackets I bought hook under the outside channel of the gutter and then swing over the top of the back of the gutter (hard to explain in words).

[member=4105]tjbnwi[/member] Thanks for the help but I just finally discovered a video showing drip edge application over the gutter hangers with cutting then.

In the video they did not push the drip edge up against the fascia. They pulled it quite a bit out to even extend slightly beyond the shingle edge. This doesn't look correct from the other videos I have watched where it is pushed up flush against the fascia. Thoughts?

I also pull the tab over the hanger also. This directs the water away from the fascia.

If you wish you can always add some sealant to the to the fascia/gutter intersection prior to bending the tab over the hanger.

My house has a drip edge.  When it comes time for a new roof I will ask the roofer to install a gutter apron.  It looks to me like a better solution.

It seems that it can be retrofitted, but I am not sure.  Would you cut around the long screws that hold the gutter in place or would you remove those screws and re-install them?  I don't know.
