dumb question on the use of the Surfix finishing pad

I got the Surfix applicator pad and outdoor oil the other day.  The applicator pops on to the oil reservoir.  It comes with this nice throw back tin can (looks like a small version of my lunchbox when I was a kid - you know, the one with Johnny Quest and Hadji on it) where you store it between uses.  The reservoir comes with a twist on cap and also a pop on cap.  Of course, in the finest Festool tradition, there really isn't any instructions on how to use it.  I figured out you got take off the screw cap (duh!) but are you supposed to squeeze the oil into the bottom of the can and let the sponge pad soak it up or is there some other way?  Would appreciate any insight.

You put the green cap on the bottle and snap it into the plate that holds the sponge and then squirt it on the surface that you are finishing and then work it in with the sponge.
