As of yesterday I am waiting for the arrival of my first festool, a t18+3. I have been eyeing a dust extractor and a RO 90. My question would be what extractor would you recommend and the sanding I have to do requires a lot of odd contours, would there be a better sander or am I looking into the right one?

Hi,

    Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

All the extractors will do the job. They  all have the same amount of suction which is much more than enough for sanding.  It really becomes a question of capacity , size, portability  and whether or not you may want to add the boom arm. The Mini/ Midi do not work with the arm.

What sort of contours do you plan to sand?  The RO90 with an interface pad may work, or there may be a better choice depending on exactly what you will be sanding.

You can even go with two interface pads if the backing paper of the abrasive offers enough flex.

Sanding doesn't create anywhere near as much volume as sawing, routing, planing, etc ... consider portability of the mini/midi v's space for the larger CT's. Probably avoid anything bigger than a CT26 if there are stairs involved.

Here is an example of what I will be sanding. I will also be using a jig saw and router but I am not yet in the market for replacements for the ones I have. Also no stairs will be involved.
