Im new here guys.
I have just purchased a CTM 36 E AC 110V 1200W/1700W Cleantec dust extractor.
In the MI's, it states that the max load for 110v outlet for external tools is 500W.

The Planex drywall sander that came with it is rated 550W so i'm scared to run it off the hoover in case it damages it or will it just make both run slow.

Two reputable dealers sell both products as a combo set. They have both said it is fine to use them together as that is how they come.
It just dosen't make sense to me to run 550W through a 1700W cleanex which has a 1200W motor.

Any enlightenment would be much appreciated.

Regards
Danny

I believe the explanation that was provided here in the past was that limit is for non Festool tools.  Festool tools have been tested to work with their extractors and it is safe to use.  Many of us run their saws and routers without issue and they operate at peak loads of double or more, so you’ll be fine.  You can always call Festool directly for peace of mind, but if you need to use the tool now, don’t hesitate.

Pretty sure the 500 watt limit is how much can be safely drawn
through the vac circuit all day long. Your arms won’t last long enough to get close to the limit. If in doubt, just feel the power cord at the end and judge if it’s too hot.

Thanks guys its a 550W festool sander by the way guys
Cheers

Is this a US problem? The TS55 is 1200 watts or so and possibly the most used and advertised item with the vac.

Im in the uk. Im thinking if the hoover is 1700w total, 1200w for the motor,  that leaves 500w output for tools then the 550w sander will run slower.
For a drywall sander it needs to run full pelt for about 4 hrs at a time.

Yes i does mate. But i have the GB model and in the manual it says 1800w/500w but on the model label says 1700w/500w lol confusing

On the Dutch site it says the socket can handle 2400 Watts...?

There is a difference between 220v and 110v machines. Because the voltage is only half with 110v the cables need to transport double the wattage to get the same power.

This is what got me to think its not ment for a 550w sander

You mean amperage, wattage is V * A. 2400W is 2400W. And the UK site says it too. I have no idea why his socket has a 500W label.

Admittedly I only have a CTL Midi but its socket is part of the body and it has a green lid. This looks bolted on. Is that an original part and did you buy this new from a dealer? Maybe someone with a CTM 36 AC can comment.

Yes mate, its brand new out of the original box as far as i am aware. The dealer says its fine so i just dont know.

I misremembered the green lid, but for illustration purposes:

Yep, I meant amperage. And amperage is what make cables hot and fail.

Equal amperage and half voltage should still mean his socket rates at 1200W, not 500W. In other words, that's not the explanation. Especially not since the Festool UK website still rates the socket at 2400W for his model.

I agree with you all but my model is the GB 110v in this picture from the manual which clearly states max external socket load to be 500w.
Thanks to you all for helping me to work this out
