I am finally ready to invest in a dust extractor. My question to those who have experience with the equipment is should I go all in on the CT-48 AC or save some money the CT-26 E and supplement with the CT-VA pre separator. Seems like both models have the same vacuuming power and the volume of waste I would lose going into the smaller model I would gain back in the separator. Even though the 26 doesn’t have the auto cleaning of the filter, it seems like you wouldn’t need to clean it very often with the separator. I loved my separator on my old shop vac, but the separator —CT26 combo is $150 more. Appreciate hearing thoughts from anyone with experience with this equipment.

I have a CT26 with the VA separator and a WorkCentre all stacked up together, and it works like a treat.

I also have a VA separator on my OG CT-Mini, which I tend to use for general cleanup and as a much quieter shop vac for cleaning out the cars.

You really only need the Auto-clean on the 48 if you're going to be using it for drywall work.

Even then, the 36 auto-clean is lighter to move with a full bin, and I'd imagine anyone using a CT for drywall work is doing that semi-mobile, as there are only so many times that one can re-rock a workshop.

The 36 AC comes with a hose specifically for the Planex, I don't know if the 48 AC is the same way.

The CT 48 is I’m sure a fine vacuum, but it seems like it’s the size of a railroad box car  [eek]

I have an older CT 22 and if I had to lug it around to job sites I’d opt for a Midi. But for shop use I think the CT26 is a good pick.

I have the 48 AC and while it is big, I'm not doing any mobile work with it. I bought it because I wanted AC in case I do drywall in the future and because it comes with the 36/32 hose. As we all know, hoses are not cheap and I didn't want to purchase that separately. The other factor for me is my height; I'm 6'4" and with the WCR 1000 on the 48, it comes out to a very nice height.

If you want the AC function, you could wait until a 36 AC comes up on recon. Save some cash, get AC, then get the CT VA.
