Dust port on the Domino

Hello, [scared]
I'm concerned with what might be, no will be a problem (or future problem if you will) with the plastic dust exhaust port on my Domino. This was my first test with my new Domino and CT22.

Attaching the vacuum hose and removing it appears to put great strain on the dust port. It's a struggle for me to carefully attach the hose and then remove it when I'm done. The plastic dust port flexes and twists especially when I'm removing the hose. I know it's going to break and soon.

Some might suggest to leave the hose attached. That's not an option for me right now. At the very least, I'm going to be moving the CT22 between my Domino and TS55 saw on a frequent basis. Has anyone considered this problem before? What if anything did you do about it?

Thanks

This is the first time I have heard of this problem. Personally, I have never been concerned with the plastic breaking under pressure from the rubber hose on any of my Festools, but perhaps you have a defective plastic port? Is the plastic equal in thickness all the way round the port? One easy way to check whether you have a defective part is to pop in to a dealer and compare a domino there with yours. If the part is not defective, it is unlikely to break. Also, do you notice a similar problem with your TS55 port? They should be similar (the TS55 also accepts larger diameter hoses).

I would not be overly concerned, however, because even in the worst case scenario of a breakage, a replacement port is only $2 or $3 according to the online Festool catalogue.

One other thing to note is that you have a new hose which should loosen up a little with time.

Richard.

I hope that's so. The hose is very tight when pushing it on which makes it hard to pull off. As you suggest, it should loosen up with a little time. It just freaks me out when I'm pulling it off and the dust port really is flexing.

As to the similar dust port on my TS55, I haven't used it yet. However, at the very least, I can see if the CT22 hose attaches to it with a similar flexing.

I used to worry about the same thing (my hose wasn't new) but after some use it seems ok. Some give in plastic isn't bad. I understand what you are worrying about but we all know how tough the tests are that Festool put their tools through. End of the day look at it like this; if it does break you have your 3 year warranty to cover it. If it breaks after 3 years either get it fixed or there will most likely be a new one out.

Either way I really don't think you have anything to worry about. If Festool has confidence in it then so do I. Festool is most likely the only brand that I can say that about.

I've had my Domino since it was first released ere in the States in the spring of 07.  I understand your concern, I had the same thoughts but its held up fine with over three years of use.

I agree with the good advice found above.  I got the domino when it first came out and the dust port is still in good shape.  The fit between a new hose and a new tool starts out very tight.  It will loosen up with use.
No need to leave the hose in the domino.  I usually work on my mft with the hose attached to the boom arm.  That hose goes on and off dozens of times a day to move from saw to router to domino to sander and back again.  No problem after three years of use.

All of the above is a "ditto that" from me. After 2 years, no breakages. If you check out the Festool video on the Domino you will see how the guys puts on the hose. Moving it up and down to slip it on as opposed to twisting the nozzle to get it over the ridges. Same to take it off. As all have said above, it gets easier as time goes on.

Enjoy your new baby  [thumbs up]

The hose is a bit on the tight side when new. If possible, just leave the hose attached to either a sander or the domino , over night and it will stretch a bit.

Hope that helps.
