Bought one of these recently to spray up some cabinets and some bi-fold doors and had an interesting experience.

I had a guy on-site painting my house who used to spray cars and knows what he's talking about with spraying, so took his advice and a quick few lessons in what does what - being ex IT I'm useless with manuals - he showed me how to use it, clean it, thin the paint etc.

All was going swimmingly until a bug crash-landed on one of the bi-fold doors whilst it was still wet.

Then a bird landed on the door, grabbed the bug after a bit of a fight and flew off.

The door now looks like a war zone.

I was waiting for a cat, a dog, a horse and an old lady to fall on them, but then it started raining.

Lesson learned. I'm going to buy a pop-up gazebo and use a tarp over it next time.

LOL, the same old struggle again, you try to make it nice and nature immediately tries to destroy it. Like, in seconds. Happens to me all the time too.  [mad][smile]

Mostly it's bugs, they really should cover wet paint in bug school, or the wind blowing dust and leaves. Your bird is quite a remarkable event, haven't heard of that one before.

Creating indoor spraying conditions is really the only way to fly at a high level.

How do you like the Earlex HV5500?

I was looking at this unit yesterday at KMS tools and this model is on sale currently. I'm thinking of picking the unit up to spray latex paint on millwork and wanted to know how good of a job it would do, despite any birds or bugs screwing things up of course!

My limited experience (only having used this and no other) was that it was pretty cool. Easy to use and dead easy to clean - which was what I was scared of. My friend who is a professional sprayer seemed to think it was definitely good enough to be spraying cabinets and doors. We did give it a go on the house but it's not quite up to the task unless you have a lot of time to waste. Did a superb job on the outside pvc pipework though, and some of the trickier bits.

2 year warranty in the UK, not sure if that's the same in the US though.

I have had that model for quite some time. I have sprayed latex, lacquer, oil and some poly and it works very well for the price. Very good for the price!

Cheers. Bryan.

Thanks for the feedback. I think that solidifies things, I guess I'll have to buy it now
