eccentric chuck inoperable

anybody else have a problem with the eccentric chuck drill attachment?  I got a drill set on the last reconditioned tool sale and fired up the eccentric chuck with excitement for the first time.  I installed it properly, turned the drill on and heard a weird grind, stopped and made sure it was installed correctly and tried it again and heard the same grind.  The output shaft on the eccentric chuck rotated slowly then stopped all together. Now if I run the drill with the eccentric chuck the output shaft doesnt spin at all.  I am not sure how the thing runs, I assumed planetary gears but its definitely shot.  I tried to put the part in for a tool repair but all that gets listed under the service section of Festool USA is complete tools not piece parts.  Since it was purchased under the recon sale am I completely out of luck?  I just checked to see how much a replacement would cost (120 bucks!) ouch!
