I mean, yeah, one could think of something like Rubio Monocoat as a thing that "effects a wood finish," kind of in tge same manner that someone might "manifest" building a chair, but have you ever seen anything claim to not effect a wood finish?

What's ironic is that the Spanish version of that: "no mancha ni afecta el acabado de la made"

gets it right: "Will not stain nor affect the finish of the wood."

Curious, it's mainly 3 types of solvents with a "Proprietary ingredient" making up the balance.

I'm thinking it's maybe some sort of shellac'ish equivalent coating, with loads of solvents to dry fast?

They were closer to right with the Spanish spelling. A little help from Merriam-Webster is in order:

Affect and effect are two of the most commonly confused words in English, but don’t worry—we’ll help you keep them straight.

The basic difference is this: affect is usually a verb, and effect is usually a noun.

‘Affect’ as a Verb

Affect, when used as a verb, means "to act on or change someone or something."

the drought affected plant growth

construction will affect traffic in the area

trying not to let emotions affect their decision
