Ehl 65

I am not officially Festool, but there have been threads here about the discontinuance of the EHl 65 for a number of years.  If you are looking for one keep a sharp eye on the calcified section.  They do pop up from time to time.

I'm not looking for one, I actually have one I'm just curious about the future availability of parts and accessories
Also curious about why festool would think that all they need to sell us is the much LARGER 850.....strange

Festool has a 7 year parts policy.  Usually they have parts for much longer.  As to why it was discontinued, certainly I can't give you that answer and whereas it might be a marketing decision Festool may not either.

The EHL 65 here did not have the plug-it cord and a revised model in Europe and elsewhere did.  I personally suspect that there wasn't enough demand to justify 2 models and then there might not have been enough demand to justify a modification of the NAINA model for the NA market.

These are all guesses on my end as to why.

Festool upgraded the EHL65 planer to a plugit cird for the European market. I'm not sure whether they made any other changes, but if they did it might have required UL to look at they tool again. My understanding is UL certification is expensive, and guess that maybe Festool didn't sell as many of the original planers as they felt necessary to justify the cost. This is just a guess so take it with a grain of salt.

On the plus side if the newer version of the 65 is mostly the same as the older version, parts will probably remain available.

Thanks guys
Many guys that I work with on the job pick mine up and say "wow this feels nice in my hand " or "nice & lite"
I have to tell them I don't believe it's available anymore, so now I know
