Electrical problems with my TS55 and CT36

I've been noticing a couple of electrical problems with my tracksaw and my dust extractor.

While running different Festool tools my dust extractor just looses power for a second and then comes back on.  This seems strange when I'm using my little ETS 125 sander with the CT 36 suction dial turned way down.  And it happens with my Tracksaw.

The other more concerning thing today was the static charge I was getting through my Festool hose connected to the CT36.  I was using the tracksaw to break down ply sheets.  You know how much you have to handle the hose to keep it from snagging and getting in the way.  I had a hard time holding the hose because I was getting shocks through it.  I took the same Festool hose and hooked it into my old Fein vac and ran the tracksaw some more and no crazy static or shocks?

And while I was cutting the ply today with my tracksaw hooked up to the CT 36, on long cuts going at a slow rate, the tracksaw would loose power for a second and then start back up.  I was being very careful to hold the tracksaw start switch down fully, but I still lost power on long cuts.  I hooked the tracksaw to the Fein vac and tried some more cuts, and the tracksaw still lost power a couple of times.  So it's not just the CT36 that I'm having electrical problems with.

I'll be calling my dealer tomorrow.  Just wondering if anyone experienced anything like this?

Are you using the grey hose or the green and black anti static hose?

From your description it appears that the festool hose is not being earthed when it is connected to the CT. This could be due to a fault in the CT - the earth lead is broken, the CT is not plugged into an earthed outlet, or the hose is not plugged into the CT directly. Any of these will result in you being shocked by static. The fact that you had no shocks with the fein vac points to the fault being in the CT setup.

The power loss is a mystery but it could be caused by the plugit cable not being fitted correctly - the lock ring has not been rotated the full 90 degrees. This causes the contact pins to arc and ultimately destroy the plug on the cord and the socket on the tool.

Thanks Bohdan,

That gives me a much better lead to talk to my dealer about now.

The loss of power from your TS is probably it not being connected well in the CT or from pulling on it. I have had he same problem. The plug in for the tool on the CT unfortunately point upward and if you give it a very light pull it had enough leverage to unplug. The plug in is also very loose on the CT system compared to my older fein turbo ii. They should have designed the latch to hook onto the plug-in a little better than it does. When I break down 2400mm cuts this happens to me quite consistently if I don't pay attention.

Thanks Taylormann,

Your TS cord pulling explanation is probably what happened.  I'll watch that one more closely.  I also don't feel like I have a positive plug in connection when I push the tool cord into the CT.  And yes I prefer my Fein for this aspect also.

So the static charge and the TS cutting out could both be user errors.  Time to build more projects with my Festool stuff and see what happens...
